Several Canadians will receive money from the government as the tax-free Canada disability benefit is set to be paid out on Friday.
According to the government website, those who qualify for the disability benefits program will receive financial payments to support their well-being. The amount they receive depends on various factors, such as the degree to which their health condition is related to their military or police service. The total also depends on the severity of their condition and how it impacts their quality of life.
“Do you have hearing loss, tinnitus, or a similar condition related to your service? Disability Benefits are financial recognition for the impact this condition can have on your life,” reads the website.
These payments are set to go out on March 28.
Who’s eligible for disability benefits?

You can apply for benefits if you’ve been diagnosed with a medical condition or disability and can show that your condition is a result of your service.
To receive disability benefit payments, you must meet several criteria.
Among those eligible are Canadian Armed Forces members or veterans and current or former members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). You can also receive disability benefits if you’re a Second World War or Korean War veteran. This also includes Merchant Navy veterans.
Some civilians also qualify if they suffered injury “as the result of action or counteraction against the enemy during the Second World War.”
How much can you receive?

Under the disability benefit, you can qualify for one of two benefits.
One is pain and suffering compensation, which you can receive as a lifetime monthly payment or as a lump sum benefit. Rates vary depending on the extent of the disability, and the monthly benefit can range from $69.60 to $1,391.98.
The second is the disability pension, which is a lifetime monthly benefit. If you’re eligible for a disability pension, the amount you receive will vary depending on your number of dependents, such as spouse, common-law partner and/or children.
You can apply for the tax-free disability benefit online by logging into your My VAC Account. You can also download and mail the application form or drop it off at any VAC office, Canadian Armed Forces Transition Centre, or Service Canada office.
