Bobby Flay to open 65 burger restaurants across Canada

Celebrity chef Bobby Flay just penned a deal that will see him opening 65 new burger restaurants in cities across Canada.

The name Bobby’s Burgers might be unfamiliar to us here in the Great White North, but below the border, the burger chain, helmed by Food Network mainstay Bobby Flay, has been gaining traction ever since it first opened under the name Bobby’s Burger Palace in 2008.

The chain operates nine locations in the United States, and are found in cities like Las Vegas, New Orleans, Atlantic City, and even the Bronx.

Following a recent deal struck between Flay and global investment firm Falcon Capital, Bobby’s Burgers’ footprint is soon to become much, much larger.

Embarking on the brand’s first-ever expansion outside of the United States, Bobby’s Burgers is slated to open a whopping 65 locations across Canada, paired with the over 12 locations in development across the U.S.

“Expanding into Canada and becoming an international brand is a major milestone,” says Flay.

The quality and flavour of Bobby’s menu are unmatched, and we’re excited to bring this exceptional premium burger experience to Canadian consumers while also providing this unique franchise opportunity to Canadian entrepreneurs,” adds franchise executive Jim Gormley, who is set to helm the expansion.

Bobby’s Burgers serves up a selection of Angus beef burgers (thick pattied, in case you were curious) grilled to your choice of medium or well-done, and served on decadent brioche buns.

Staples include the Crunchburger, which comes topped with American cheese, potato chips and Bobby’s secret sauce, and the Nacho Burger, with queso, pickled jalapeno, blue corn tortilla chips, and tomato chipotle salsa.

Flay also serves up a handful of crispy chicken sandwiches, sides, decadent milkshakes, and, at select locations, a full breakfast menu, just to round out the offerings.

While many specific details around the expansion are still under wraps for now, we do know that the first location will be a flagship in downtown Toronto — once the team has found the perfect spot.

“We’re actively touring real estate throughout the Greater Toronto Area, with a strong focus on securing the right flagship location,” Bobby’s chief marketing officer, Anne Pritz, tells Dished Toronto.

“While we haven’t finalized a site just yet, the process is well underway, and we’re aiming to open the first Canadian location as soon as the ideal space is secured. Our priority is finding a location that truly sets the tone for the brand’s introduction to the Canadian market.”

As for what other Canadian cities can expect to call themselves home to a Bobby’s Burgers location, Pritz doesn’t divulge too many details, telling us instead that the chain is “taking a thoughtful, data-driven approach to expansion and are evaluating additional urban and suburban markets across the country.”

It’s vague, sure, but Flay is known for his theatrics, after all, so ultimately, it feels fitting.

For now, we can all just focus on getting excited to sink our teeth into Bobby’s “unbeatable” burgers.
