Bell follows suit after Rogers and Fido raise fees

Bell has raised the price of its connection fee to $75.

This comes just a couple of months after Rogers and flanker brand Fido increased its connection fees to the same amount. Like Rogers, Bell offers to waive the fee if you order online.

Bell’s new fee is live on both its own website and flanker brand Virgin’s. It last raised its connection fees from $70 to $75 in October.

Last August, Telus raised its own connection fee to $70. Given that two of the “Big Three” carriers have already jacked their fees to $75, it seems safe to assume that Telus will soon follow suit.

All of these hikes come in spite of the fact that the CRTC’s recent amendments to the Telecommunications Act prohibit charging fees “related to the activation or modification of a telecommunications service plan.” Nonetheless, carriers have generally been raising their connection fee prices by $5 to $10 on a near-annual basis.
