"Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" advanced ticket sales are of atomic proportions

It could be one of the biggest weekends at the box office, as advanced ticket sales for both Barbie and Oppenheimer are exploding.
Both highly anticipated movies are opening this week, with the two set to clash at the box office on July 21.
The two movies couldn’t be further apart thematically, but that hasn’t stopped moviegoers from purchasing tickets in advance in droves. According to Cineplex, the numbers are wild.
What’s more surprising is the number of people planning to watch BOTH movies on opening night.

“To no surprise, our guests are excited to watch Barbie and Oppenheimer on the big screen,” a Cineplex spokesperson told Daily Hive.
Across Canada, close to 345,000 advance tickets have already been purchased at Cineplex theatres.
When considering Landmark Cinemas, that number could be much higher regarding how many people plan to watch the two movies this weekend.
Of those 345,000 tickets, over 60,000 were bought by movie lovers planning on seeing both films, with 65% planning on experiencing the “true doubleheader” by seeing both of them on the same day.
Critics have praised both films, with reviews rolling in earlier this week, but Oppenheimer has a slight edge over Barbie.
Barbie is currently sitting at 81 on Metacritic based on 54 reviews, while Oppenheimer is sitting at 90 with 57 reviews.
