With the holidays quickly approaching, Amazon has announced plans to hire thousands of positions across Canada.

The e-commerce giant announced on Thursday that it would begin hiring 7,000 seasonal roles in October and continue through December.

Positions are available at Amazon Canada fulfillment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations from coast to coast. Seasonal roles include stowing, picking, packing, sorting, and shipping customer orders.

The temporary position may blossom into a full-time opportunity, according to one manager at an Amazon Canada fulfillment centre.

“I’ve seen firsthand how a seasonal position can grow into a rewarding long-term career at Amazon,” said Cassandra Radovich, general manager at YHM1, an Amazon fulfillment centre in Hamilton, Ont. “Many of Amazon’s current leaders began in entry-level seasonal roles and found opportunities to advance within the company.”

According to the company, open seasonal roles are posted online throughout the holiday season; however, they fill up quickly. Amazon Canada advises job seekers to regularly check job postings for updates.

In addition to hiring thousands of seasonal employees, the tech giant revealed that it’s increasing the average hourly wage for eligible workers from $23.50 in 2024 to $24.50 this year. This wage bump means full-time Amazon Canada employees will earn a minimum annual salary of $50,960.

The company also has a step plan compensation model that offers eligible hourly full- and part-time workers planned pay increases every six months until their 24-month anniversary. They receive another wage hike after 36 months.

The tech giant is also providing employees with additional work perks, offering eligible workers free Prime memberships after 90 days of employment, starting at the end of 2025.

This new benefit provides free access to the full suite of Prime services, including fast and free delivery, exclusive access to deals and shopping events like Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days, Prime Video streaming, ad-free listening of millions of songs and podcasts episodes with Amazon Music Prime, Prime Reading’s library of books, gaming benefits with Prime Gaming, unlimited photo storage with Amazon Photos, and a free DashPass membership.
