Air Canada scraps major Canadian route to one of world's largest cities

Air Canada’s Toronto-to-Mumbai route is officially dead.
Air Canada has no plans to resume seasonal flights between Pearson International Airport and Mumbai next year due to low demand, with the news coming just days after another airline launched its own service between the two cities.
The seasonal route operating Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft last flew this past March, though its connecting stop at London Heathrow Airport proved a factor in the low demand that ultimately grounded the route.

Air India announced back in August that it would launch new, direct flights between Toronto and Mumbai, with three direct flights connecting the cities per week — and no stopover along the way. The new route came as something of a surprise, as Air India had reduced frequency on its two major routes to Canada earlier in 2026.
Air India’s seasonal service launched on Oct. 25, 2026, and will run until March 26, 2027.
The new route departs Mumbai at 4 a.m. local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and arrives in Toronto at 10 a.m. Flights from Toronto depart at 1:30 p.m. local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and arrive at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 2:10 p.m. the next day.
The route is served by Air India’s Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which features upgraded cabin interiors, eight first-class suites, 40 flat-bed business-class seats, and 280 economy-class seats.
