What better way to celebrate the holiday season than by exercising your charitable spirit while simultaneously pelting strangers with snowballs?
Started in Edmonton last year by then-strangers Jeff Chase and Robin Mazumder following a Twitter conversation, yycsnowfight is a massive, spontaneous snowball battle aimed at bringing friends, families, and total strangers together for a bit of winter fun, while contributing to those in need.
Conceived as a spontaneous event, yycsnowfight participants leave their name and contact information with organizers. Only 24 hours before its scheduled start, a time and place are revealed, and the battle begins. They’re also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation, in support of local food banks. This year the event has expanded to both Edmonton and Calgary, with separate snowball fights, dates, details, and charities.
To take part, participants should go to the event’s official website and sign up for whichever city they’re in. After sending organizers either their phone number or email address, the waiting then begins. Keep your eyes open, because you never know when a snowball fight might be just around the corner.
