World Gym opened its downtown location in July 2019, its central spot making it a favourite for fitness enthusiasts getting their workout in before or after the office.

The gym cites struggles that date back to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since March 2020, we’ve worked tirelessly to navigate the challenges of a vacant Downtown Calgary. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we’ve been unable to rebuild our membership base to a level that can sustain the rising costs of rent, utilities, and products.”
The gym will be cancelling all memberships as of 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16. For those who have prepaid, pro-rated refunds will be issued. There is also the option to transfer your membership to either the Southland or Sunridge locations free of charge.
Looks like Calgary’s remaining downtown fitness studios are about to get a lot busier.
