Wonderful Pistachios recalled nationwide, linked to salmonella contamination

A national recall notice has been issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) for pistachios under the Wonderful Pistachios brand, which have been linked to a possible salmonella contamination.

A statement on the agency’s website, dated March 10, advises consumers not consume, and retailers, hotels, restaurants, and institutions to hold off from selling, serving or using the recalled products.

The pistachios in question may have been sold in bulk or in smaller packages with or without a clearly marked label, and may not even bear the “Wonderful Pistachios” product name, says the CFIA.

Consumers who are unsure if they have purchased the affected products are advised to contact their retailer.

This recall was triggered by a voluntarily recall in the United States by Wonderful Pistachios and may be associated with an outbreak in the United States.

The recall by the company is published on the website of the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.

While the CFIA says there have been no confirmed illnesses in Canada associated with the consumption of these products, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that 11 people across nine states in the USA have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Montevideo.
