Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning in effect for Calgary today and other parts of southern Alberta.

Strong winds that may cause damage are expected to hit Calgary beginning early this afternoon.

“An intense low pressure system will bring strong northerly winds, with gusts up to 100 km/h possible,” reads the warning.

The strong winds are expected to continue through the day before gradually diminishing this evening.

“Additionally with this low, an area of rain will continue to move across central parts of the province this morning, and track southeastwards to the Saskatchewan border by this afternoon. General amounts will be in the 20 to 30 mm range by Thursday morning with locally higher amounts possible due to embedded thunderstorms. Rain will taper off later Thursday morning as the low moves eastward.”
