Choosing where you want to go for university is a big decision. It’s where you’ll build your community, make friends for life, and get the education that will launch you into your future career. But everyone’s needs are different, and it’s important to discover what the best choice is for you.

If you’re aiming to trade Alberta’s freezing winters for a vibrant university experience in a more moderate climate, why not look west to UBC? Not only is it ranked within the top 40 universities in the world, but its two beautiful campuses in Vancouver and the Okanagan are surrounded by mountains, lakes, and beaches, where you can hike, bike, swim, ski, snowshoe, and chill out after class. And that’s before you consider all the degrees you can choose from.

Under normal circumstances, students would get to see the awesome arts, athletic, and academic facilities on each campus in real life. Even though UBC had to suspend its in-person events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the university still wants to make sure that students and their parents or guardians get the chance to discover what UBC has to offer.

UBC is hosting a series of online virtual events for you to find out what life is like at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, both in and outside the classroom. Check out what they’re offering below.

All About UBC

During this one-hour session, you’ll get a great introduction to UBC by hearing more about the student experience and the inclusive, innovative, and inviting campus communities (plus the incredible outdoor activities connected to each location).

You’ll learn about admissions requirements in detail, what the application process looks like, and how to apply for your dream program. For this event, come ready with any burning questions you may have — and invite your parents or guardians to join if you like.

Your Degree at UBC

Both UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan offer a broad range of traditional and cutting-edge degree programs with hundreds of opportunities for specialization. At this virtual event, you’ll explore the degree and program options available at UBC to help you decide whether the university is the right fit for you.

You’ll take part in program-specific breakout sessions, which will allow you to interact with current UBC students and faculty from the programs that pique your curiosity. Not sure what you want to study yet? That’s totally fine! This event will provide an overview of programs and a chance to learn about the wide range of opportunities available.

Discover UBC’s Okanagan campus

This virtual event will help you discover the academic experiences and tight-knit community at UBC Okanagan (and how a smaller campus makes it easy to meet new friends and connect with your teachers).

Current students will be sharing their stories of university life, including details on the recreation accessible outside of the classroom, from biking to hiking, swimming, and skiing. You’ll also get to virtually meet with UBC advisors who will walk you through the application process.

Indigenous introduction to UBC

In this virtual event, you’ll join UBC’s Indigenous Recruitment team to discover what it’s like to be an Indigenous student at the university, learn about admissions requirements, and get a step-by-step overview of how to apply.

During the session, the team will provide details on the Indigenous communities and spaces at UBC. Information on the resources and services available at both UBC campuses, along with the funding and awards you can access, will also be provided. Plus, your parents or guardians are welcome to attend this session with you.

Indigenous application workshop

Applying for a program can seem overwhelming at first, but you can learn about UBC’s application process for Indigenous students by joining this hands-on workshop. The university’s Indigenous Recruiter Advisors will take you through a demonstration of the online application and provide tips on applying for UBC’s Indigenous-specific awards.

This informative session will offer key details on the programs and services for Indigenous students found on both UBC campuses. If your parents or guardians are curious about the application process, invite them to attend the event too.

At UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan, each campus is filled with modern learning spaces and innovative research facilities. In the midst of the pandemic, exploring them digitally is a great way to discover where you want to go. Plus, UBC will be adding more events to the roster up until November 23.

To sign up for an event, you must create an account on the Future Student Portal. You can then register for any sessions that speak to you.

This is your chance to get a feel for the university where your future could begin, so be sure to make the most of it.

UBC Okanagan is located in the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan Nation. UBC Vancouver is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Musqueam people.
