Tyson Barrie retires from hockey after 14 NHL seasons

Longtime NHL defenceman Tyson Barrie is calling it a career.
After 14 NHL seasons and 822 games for five NHL teams, Barrie is officially hanging up his skates.
While he played more than half of his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche, Barrie got the chance to do a bit of a cross-Canada tour for the latter part of his career. After being traded from Colorado to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Barrie had stints with the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, while also suiting up for the Nashville Predators.
One of the NHL’s top defencemen in his day, Barrie went unclaimed on waivers last season and spent some time with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers.
Barrie spoke to DNVR’s Nathan Rudolph about his decision at an Avalanche alumni event..
“I was unsure about my future, but I’m so grateful the career I’ve had, andĀ for the friends I’ve got to make,” Barrie said. “I played in some great spots with some great teammates and they’re all different and unique.”
