Twitter reacts to W. Brett Wilson's pledge to donate $100K to the Calgary Library if the city allows Uber
Uber is causing more conflict in our city, spawning from a Bob Edwards Gala where W. Brett Wilson made a comment reportedly saying that he is willing to pay $100K to the Calgary Library if the city approves Uber, a ride-sharing company.
So @WBrettWilson will give $100K to the @calgarylibrary when the city approves #uberincalgary Can we make it happen? pic.twitter.com/kYMiYnBNcw

The Calgary Public Library is grateful for Wilson’s generous commitment but said it has “no opinion on Uber”.
@ginmaths The @LibraryFdnYYC is grateful for W. Brett Wilson’s $100K commitment with a Bob Edwards twist; we have no opinion on Uber. — CalgaryPublicLibrary (@calgarylibrary) November 6, 2015
Will this substantial donation to the Calgary Library be the reason why our laws will change to allow ride-sharing?
Wilson is a strong activist for Uber and comments on twitter show that Calgarians are on his side too, but some are a bit weary of his methods.
@meganpratt @DruhFarrell @calgarylibrary 1) it’s my money so I can. 2) the cause is worthy. 3) uber is inevitable. Looks like a donation.

@WBrettWilson @meganpratt @masonhastie @DruhFarrell @calgarylibrary it doesn’t matter whose money it is… bribery isn’t progress. — Julie Van Rosendaal (@dinnerwithjulie) November 6, 2015
@kellyhofer @WBrettWilson @cityofcalgary @Uber Rich people buying off policy makers is sad + cynical way to run a city, province or country — Chris Conway (@ChrisConwayBC) November 6, 2015
@kellyhofer @WBrettWilson @cityofcalgary @Uber I hope the City will approve Uber, but I’m not sure this is the best way to “motivate.” — Karen Styles (@yyc_karen) November 6, 2015
@kellyhofer @WBrettWilson @cityofcalgary @Uber My point is that donation to the @calgarylibrary Shouldn’t be tied to City policy. 1/2 — Karen Styles (@yyc_karen) November 6, 2015
@kellyhofer @WBrettWilson @cityofcalgary I LOVE the CPL (I volunteer there) & wouldn’t want them to miss out on $$$ b/c of @Uber issue. 2/2 — Karen Styles (@yyc_karen) November 6, 2015
