How Tsuut’ina Nation culture is shaping this new community bordering Calgary’s southwest

Friends and neighbours gather together. Live music fills the air while guests browse Indigenous artisan market vendors, line up at unique food trucks to sample flavourful dishes, and pull in close to take in traditional drumming, dancing, and ceremony.
That’s Something Wondrous, and you’re invited to attend this year’s festival on Saturday, Sept. 12. Come for the music, then stay to explore a way to discover Taza Park and Buffalo Run, interconnected communities that welcome everyone — on festival day and every other day of the year.
Taza is a new community located on Tsuut’ina Nation, bordering southwest Calgary. It’s a place rooted in story, spirit, and a deep respect for the land, developed in partnership with Tsuut’ina members and Elders.
Whether you’re visiting for a day or calling Taza home, there are so many things to see and do in this meaningfully designed community.
Culture you walk through, not past
One of the ways Taza creates a unique sense of place is through art and place. Throughout its thoughtful community planning, Taza works carefully to embed the Nation’s stories, language, and customs into many design elements. One such way is through a gallery of rotating art located in the Taza Park Sales & Marketing Centre, where you can purchase work directly from the artists.
Another is through bold, large-scale murals at The Shops at Buffalo Run, which bring colour and storytelling to the public space. The Shops at Buffalo Run is a plaza that brings together everything you need in one place, from casual dining to grab-and-go food, specialty retail and supply essentials, plus the everyday conveniences that make your life easier.
Culture isn’t just added on here; it is woven throughout to create a sense of place, depth, and meaning, with art incorporated into every intersection, corridor, and amenity.
Something Wondrous is the payoff, not the whole story
And of course, who could forget the Something Wondrous festival? The flagship Indigenous music festival featuring an all-Indigenous musical lineup, a fashion show, artisan vendors, interactive workshops, and a traditional opening ceremony.
Think of it as the culmination of everything Taza expresses the rest of the year, all in one afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 12. Save the date!
