Trudeau and Obama reignite bromance with private dinner in Montreal
It is safe to say that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s relationship with President Donald Trump lacks any spark, so to speak.

Canada-US relations have taken a bumpy turn over the last four and a half months with Trump’s controversial presidency, particularly with his policies on trade with Canada and most recently his position on global climate action.
But for a brief moment on Tuesday, we were reminded of how things were like only a few months ago.
After giving a speech to the Montreal Board of Trade at the Palais des congrès in Montreal, former President Barack Obama had a private dinner with Trudeau at Liverpool House restaurant.
According to tweets by their official accounts, they spent time talking about how they can empower youth to become leaders in their own communities.
“Tonight in Montreal, @BarackObama and @JustinTrudeau discussed their shared commitment to developing the next generation of leaders,” reads a tweet by the Obama Foundation with a photo of the pair at the restaurant table.
A tweet on Trudeau’s account had a similar message and photo: “How do we get young leaders to take action in their communities? Thanks @BarackObama for your visit & insights tonight in my hometown.”

Trudeau and Obama were kind enough to provide the restaurant staff with a keepsake, a group photo, before they left.
There were even loud cheers from the large crowd of onlookers gathered outside the restaurant hoping for a glimpse of the men, who were accompanied by a heavy police and security entourage.
Both men quickly developed a close relationship, referred by many as a ‘bromance’, shortly after Trudeau won the federal election in the fall of 2015. They had their first face-to-face meeting as world leaders at the APEC Summit in November of that year.
