A former Toronto resident has been confirmed as a victim at the Pittsburgh Synagogue shooting that took place over the weekend during Shabbat services.
Rabbi Yael Splansky of Toronto’s Holy Blossom Temple said that “Joyce Fienberg, one of the eleven, grew up at Holy Blossom Temple. She was married here. Her Confirmation photo is on our wall of honour.”
Her post also mourned the deaths of the 10 others who were killed.
“This morning’s service was full. The sounds of Jews at prayer buoyed me. The faces of these good people strengthened my faith in the future,” read a Facebook post by the Rabbi. “Even the drilling in the background was music to my ears, because synagogue construction is the perfect response to yesterday’s news.”
Conservative leader Andrew Scheer tweeted about Feinberg.
“The murders, disturbing enough, are all the more so because of the heinous reality of anti-semitism and the fact they were killed while in their place of worship,” he said. “We must always remain vigilant about defending religious freedom and fighting anti-semitism. May their memories be a blessing.”

According to the Washington Post, a man armed with a semiautomatic assault-style rifle walked into the Tree of Life synagogue on Saturday and shot worshipers, killing 11 and wounding six in what is believed to be the deadliest attack on Jews in the history of the United States.
Police identified the shooter as 46-year-old Robert D. Bowers, a Pittsburgh resident. He was charged with 29 counts of federal crimes of violence and firearms offenses.
US President Donald Trump said that all of America is in mourning over the mass murder.
All of America is in mourning over the mass murder of Jewish Americans at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh. We pray for those who perished and their loved ones, and our hearts go out to the brave police officers who sustained serious injuries…
