BabyCenter’s top 100 girls and boys baby names for 2018 has been released.
For girls, parents avoided the usual high fliers and a new name has taken the number one spot, beating out 2017’s champ, Olivia.
For boys, BabyCenter parents proved they’re still fond of the favourites, with only a slight jostling of the crown as Noah was knocked off the top spot, ‘all the way’ down to 3rd.
Three new recruits for the boys joined the top ten, hinting at a growing fondness for names ending in -son. Jackson, Mason and Grayson are in at numbers two, nine and 10 respectively. This trend was repeated throughout the top 100 with Carson, Harrison and Hudson all making the list.
For the gals, three-letter names were popular across the board, with nearly all the top ten girlsâ names going to small but punchy choices, including Lea and Ana. Names ending with the letter âaâ has been a trend for 2018, with a peppering across the whole top 100, including Clara, Eva, Kira, Ida and Luna.
According to BabyCenter, parents boldly opted for some different choices compared to last yearâs batch, with dozens of new entries storming the charts. More than a third of the top 100 didnât appear on 2017’s list, for both boys and girls. Names like Lea, Gia, Eve, Noa, Joy, Bria, Kylie, Zayn, Ezra, Declan and Maverick revealed that BabyCenter parents can enjoy more modern choices alongside the vintage classics.
