'Human error' blamed after Tim Hortons trucker drives with tailgate down on Alberta highway

Jan 6 2026, 5:09 pm

Sometimes when you’re in a hurry, you’ll forget small things like your keys or your coffee, but one Tim Hortons truck driver forgot the tailgate, the pallet lifter, and the back door.

In a video that began making its rounds within the last week and has since gone viral, a Tim Hortons semi-truck can be seen driving along the QEII near Red Deer (which frequent travellers between Calgary and Edmonton know is where you often see some wild driving). The clip shows the back door of the truck wide open, the tailgate dragging along the ground, and, if that’s not enough, the pallet lifter still sitting on the tailgate as the truck continued down the highway.

Thankfully, the truck appeared to be empty, so if you were driving behind it, you at least wouldn’t end up covered in a billion napkins if the driver slammed on the brakes. That said, driving into a pallet lifter and attached pallets is obviously not ideal either.

We asked Tim Hortons about the incident, and they told us it was an “isolated human error” that is being reviewed.

“Safety is our top priority. Thank you to the motorists who alerted our driver; the issue was fixed right away. This was an isolated human error, and we’re reviewing it to help prevent a repeat.”

The post racked up thousands of comments across social media platforms.

“Needs a morning coffee,” wrote Glen Panchyshyn on Facebook.

“Saves time lowering the lift,” joked Mark LaChance.

Brad Woodrow wrote, “He will be mixing double-doubles on the afternoon shift.”

It just goes to show that everyone has bad days at work, but most of us are lucky enough not to have those moments posted online for the entire internet to weigh in on.
