Tim Hortons launches "EHmoji" keyboard ahead of Canada Day

Tim Hortons will be introducing an “EHmoji” iPhone keyboard just in time for Canada Day.

The app can be downloaded on iTunes and will feature a keyboard that will be equipped with 12 different emojis including an inukshuk, a moose and a beaver. Tim Hortons says it wants to add more – it will add the most requested emojis Canadians ask for using the hashtag #TextlikeaCanadian.

“This is Canada’s EHmoji keyboard, so we want Canadians to tell us what should be included,” said says Peter Nowlan, chief marketing officer of Tim Hortons in a press release. “We’ll add the most requested ones to our keyboard.”

The coffee and doughnut giant will be launching the EHmoji keyboard for Android as well on Monday, June 29.

The publicity stunt comes half a year after Tim Hortons and Burger King merged under one brand name, Restaurant Brands International Inc. Tim Hortons was also recently caught in the spotlight for airing a less-favourable ad on its TVs in its stores across Canada. Many customers disappointed in the company’s business move decided to boycott the chain.

Other options of “texting like a Canadian” are already available to Canadians. In February, Apple announced it will be including a more racially-diverse character set in its emojis with the launch of its new iOS and OSX. After years of only having one North American flag, that being the United States, Apple finally incorporated the Canadian flag into its new set.
