With snowboarding enjoyed by people all over the world, it can be hard to imagine a time when the sport was still considered new enough to be enjoyed by a “tight-knit” group of athletes.
Fortunately, thanks to a YouTube video by user Vintage Ski Video, it is possible to do just that.
Shot using footage from the 1990 OP Pro Challenge in Lake Louise, the video is a throwback to the sport’s early days.
“Snowboarding has become big business,” exclaims the video’s host Cathy Sproule – who looks sharp in a classic, early ’90s one-piece ski suit. “Everybody’s jumping on the bandwagon.”
During an interview in the video, a pro snowbaorder from Colorado named Kevin Delaney tells Sproule snowboarders are “are a tight-knit group of athletes because we’re all trying to make the sport succeed.”
Call us crazy, but we think it’s fair to say that in 2017, they have succeeded in that mission.
Check out the action and enjoy this walk down memory lane.
