Santa Shreds for Free

  • What: Was riding the slopes on your Christmas list? Well, Santa came through this year as you can ski or snowboard for free on Christmas day IF you’re dressed up as Santa, an elf, a reindeer, or other character. (It must be a full costume, not just a hat, to qualify for the free full day pass).
  • Where: Mt. Norquary – PO Box 1520, Banff
  • When: Friday, December 25 at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Watch hockey’s World Junior Championship

  • What: Sit, have a pint, and watch a game at various bars and pubs around Calgary.
  • Where: Various venues. Check where to watch the Championship here.
  • When: December 26 to January 6

Winter CARnival

  • What: Gather your friends and family for the Winter CARnival at Gasoline Alley Museum.
  • Where: Heritage Park, Gasoline Alley – 1900 Heritage Drive SW
  • When: Sunday, December 27 to Monday, January 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $10.50, $8.25 Senior (65+), $6.50 Youth (7 to 14), $5.25 for children (3 to 6) and free for ages 2 and under

Zoolights at Calgary Zoo

  • What: Incredible lights illuminate the Calgary Zoo in almost every colour imaginable. Along with beautiful scenery you can skate on their skating rink, visit Santa, do kids activities and watch the Calgary Zoo’s new interactive light display.
  • Where: Calgary Zoo – 1300 Zoo Road NE, Calgary
  • When: Now until Saturday, January 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: $14 for general admission, $11 for children, and $5 for parking.

Lion’s Festival of Lights

  • What: Drive by or walk by this Festival of Lights designed by Dean McKenzie and it is now considered 99% green with 115,000 LED light bulbs.
  • Where: 14 Street NW, Calgary
  • When: Now until Friday, January 8 at 5 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Christmas Lights at Spruce Meadows

  • What: Every evening a quarter of a million lights blanketing Spruce Meadows will glow. If you like skating there is a rink to skate on and if you get hungry they also serve hot chocolate, coffee and snacks.
  • Where: 18011 Spruce Meadows Way SW
  • When: Now until Sunday, January 3 between 5 and 10 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

The Calgary Flames vs the Edmonton Oilers

  • What: The Calgary Flames face the Edmonton Oilers.
  • Where: Scotiabank Saddledome
  • When: Sunday, December 27 at 7 p.m.
  • Cost: Varies

Legend Has It

  • What: Alberta Theatre Projects presents Legend Has It, a funny and heartwarming show where they choose someone from the audience to go on a quest to save the world.
  • Where: Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons – 205 8 Avenue SE
  • When: Now through until December 31; Tuesdays (except Dec 1, 8, 15), Wednesdays (except Dec 2, 9) to Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m.

Airdrie Festival of Lights

  • What: Celebrate 20 years of Airdrie’s Festival of Lights. You can walk around and marvel at the different light displays, go skating, and the kids can ride on a little train.
  • Where: Nose Creek Park, Airdrie
  • When: Now until Thursday, December 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: Admission by donation

80 Solid Gold 2: A Musical Revue

  • What: Stage West is back to perform all of the top influential new wave pop and rock songs in this second part of their show.
  • Where: Stage West Calgary – 727 42 Avenue SE
  • When: Now through until February 7

Jubilations Dinner Theatre: Modern Family Vacation

  • What: Enjoy a dinner theatre play about a couple that decide to go on a Titanic II cruise for their anniversary only for their family to decide to come along too. Nothing could go wrong right?
  • Where: Jubilations – 1002 37 Street SW, Calgary
  • When: Now until Sunday, February 14
