Don’t Let The Grinch Steal Christmas Party at Standard Nightclub

  • What: The Grinch has been up to no good this Christmas, so Standard Nightclub is throwing a free Christmas party. DJ Joe Swell will be dropping the beats all evening long.

Christmas Baking and Beverages

  • What: Explore delectable drinks with Truvé Wines and celebrate your holidays in style.

Market Collective: Holiday Dates

  • What: Market Collective will be showcasing a roster of artists and musicians during the weekend and you can follow them along on social media.
  • Where: Chinese Cultural Centre – 197 1 Street SW
  • When: December 18 to 20; Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 6 p.m.
  • Cost: $5; free for kids

The Nutcracker by the Alberta Ballet

  • What: Join the adventure about a little girl who gets a nutcracker for Christmas through the beautiful and graceful Alberta Ballet.
  • Where: Jubilee Auditorium – 1415 14 Ave NW
  • When: Thursday, December 17 to Thursday, December 24; Various times, check schedule.
  • Cost: Varies

Viessmann Luge World Cup 2015 and Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course (FIL) Sprint World Cup 2015

  • What: Watch Luge athletes compete to win in different categories. While the Viessmann Luge World Cup is occurring on December 19 there will also be another event, WinSport’s Christmas at the track, which includes seeing Santa, sleigh rides, a petting zoo and more.
  • Where: Luge Track at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park – 323, 151 Canada Olympic Road SW
  • When: Friday, December 18 to Saturday, December 19
  • Cost: Free on December 18, $15 for a family or $10 for an individual on December 19 ($5 off if you bring a lightly used jacket).

The Nutcracker by Jeunesse Ballet

  • What: A ballet that is performed in two-acts about a little girl and her adventures and is open to your own interpretation, come and enjoy, The Nutcracker.
  • Where: University Theatre and Vertigo Theatre, Calgary
  • When: December 18, 19, and 20; Various times, check schedule
  • Cost: $10 to $45

Naughty but Nice!

  • What: A returning comedy show with new songs and sketches. It features characters like Elf on the Shelf and Brendan the Brown-Nosed Reindeer.
  • Where: Lunchbox Theatre – 115 9 Avenue SE
  • When: Now until December 20; Tuesday to Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

StoryBook Theatre’s A Christmas Story: The musical

  • What: Hilarious is only one of the words used to describe A Christmas Story – the musical, which is based on the holiday movie favourite. It’s about a boy in the 1940s who has a huge imagination and one wish for Christmas.
  • Where: StoryBook Theatre – 375 Bermuda Drive NW
  • When: Now until December 23; Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m.
  • Cost: $21 for adults, $16 for children

Heritage Park’s Once Upon a Christmas

  • What: Get into the spirit of Christmas on the weekends by taking a wagon ride, singing carols and visiting Santa. Perhaps decorating gingerbread cookies or visiting the petting zoo is more your style, there are plenty of activities to do at this ongoing traditional Christmas event.
  • Where: Heritage Park – 1900 Heritage Drive SW
  • When: Now until Sunday, December 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $10.50; $8.25 Senior (65+); $6.50 Youth ( 7 to 14); $5.25 Child (3 to 6) and free for ages 2 and under

Zoolights at Calgary Zoo

  • What: Incredible lights illuminate the Calgary Zoo in almost every colour imaginable. Along with beautiful scenery you can skate on their skating rink, visit Santa, do kids activities and watch the Calgary Zoo’s new interactive light display.
  • Where: Calgary Zoo – 1300 Zoo Road NE
  • When: Now until Saturday, January 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: $14 for general admission, $11 for children, and $5 for parking.

A Christmas Carol by Theatre Calgary

  • What: A festive classic, Theatre Calgary brings the Charles Dickens’ novel to life just in time for the holiday season.
  • Where: 240 9th Avenue SE
  • When: Now until Thursday, December 24 at 2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Tickets starting at $57

Legend Has It

  • What: Alberta Theatre Projects presents Legend Has It, a funny and heartwarming show where they choose someone from the audience to go on a quest to save the world.
  • Where: Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons – 205 8 Avenue SE
