Calgary Flames vs Winnipeg Jets

  • What: The Calgary Flames play the Winnipeg Jets.

Crash Test Comedy

  • What: Watch stand up comedy in a punk rock basement featuring Amy Bugg, Ben Cannon, Ian Wallace and more!

  • Cost: $5; Cash only

Spirit in the Mountain

  • What: Spirit in the Mountain, presented by Canmore Cave Tours, will get you into the spirit of Christmas. Be lead by your expert guides through the passages of Rats Nest Cave and be under ground for roughly two hours at this 4.5 hour event.
  • Where: Canmore Cave Tours – 129 Bow Meadows Crescent, Canmore
  • When: Now until Tuesday, December 22 at 6 p.m.
  • Cost: $155 for adults, $136 for youth

The Olympic Oval’s Toonie Christmas Skate

  • What: Shine FM will be playing Christmas Music throughout the day at Olympic Oval, the worlds fastest ice. Remember it is mandatory to wear a helmet while you skate.
  • Where: The Olympic Oval – 2500 University Drive NW
  • When: Tuesday, December 22 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $2 with a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Calgary Food Bank

The Jingles: Live at Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar

  • What: People of all ages are welcome to the Live performance by The Jingles. The band will surely get you into the festive mood with Christmas music and holiday cheer.
  • Where: Gravity Espresso and Wine Bar – 990 10 Street SE
  • When: Wednesday, December 23 at 7 p.m.
  • Cost: Optional cover; 50% of the proceeds go to The Jingles and 50 per cent go to the Peloton 65

The Christmas Carol Project

  • What: The Christmas Carol Project has been running 20 years, bringing together the original songs and narration from the Charles Dickens’ tale.
  • Where: Pumphouse Theatre – 2140 Pumphouse Avenue SW
  • When: Monday, December 21 to 23 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Starting at $30

Calgary Farmers’ Market

  • What: Full of fresh food and free entertainment as well as many different vendors to visit this little market is the perfect spot to visit during the winter.
  • Where: 510 77 Avenue SE, Calgary
  • When: Open Tuesday, December 22 and Wednesday, December 23  from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Closed December 24 to January 6

Crossroads Market

  • What: Hosting farm-fresh produce and tasty treats plus lost of unique finds from the large variety of vendors.
  • Where: Cross Roads Market – 1235 26 Avenue SE, Calgary
  • When: Open Tuesday, December 22 and Wednesday, December 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed December 24 to January 1

Symons Valley Ranch

  • What: Visit the many different vendors and explore what the Symons Valley ranch has to offer.

A Christmas Carol by Theatre Calgary

  • What: A festive classic, Theatre Calgary brings the Charles Dickens’ novel to life just in time for the holiday season.
  • Where: 240 9th Avenue SE
  • When: Now until Thursday, December 24 at 2 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Tickets starting at $57

The Nutcracker by the Alberta Ballet

  • What: Join the adventure about a little girl who gets a nutcracker for Christmas through the beautiful and graceful Alberta Ballet.
  • Where: Jubilee Auditorium – 1415 14 Avenue NW
  • When: Now until Thursday, December 24; Various times, check schedule.
  • Cost: Varies

Horsin Around

  • What: Offering Sleigh Rides, pony rides, petting zoo, campfire and hot chocolate, to create a day of fun at Horsin Around.
  • Where: Horsin Around – 3729 146 Avenue SW
  • When: Thursday, December 24, 26, 27, January 1, 2, and 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $10, $8 for kids 3 to 17, and $29 for a family

Santa Shreds for Free

  • What: Was riding the slopes on your Christmas list? Well, Santa came through this year as you can ski or snowboard for free on Christmas day IF you are dressed up as Santa, an elf, a reindeer, or other character. (It must be a full costume, not just a hat, to qualify for the free full day pass).
  • Where: Mt. Norquary – PO Box 1520, Banff
  • When: Friday, December 25 at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Zoolights at Calgary Zoo

  • What: Incredible lights illuminate the Calgary Zoo in almost every colour imaginable. Along with beautiful scenery you can skate on their skating rink, visit Santa, do kids activities and watch the Calgary Zoo’s new interactive light display.
  • Where: Calgary Zoo – 1300 Zoo Road NE, Calgary
  • When: Now until Saturday, January 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: $14 for general admission, $11 for children, and $5 for parking.

Lion’s Festival of Lights

  • What: Drive by or walk by this Festival of Lights designed by Dean McKenzie. The light display is now considered 99% green with 115,000 LED light bulbs.
  • Where: 14 Street NW, Calgary
  • When: Now until Friday, January 8 at 5 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

Airdrie Festival of Lights

  • What: Celebrate 20 years of Airdrie’s Festival of Lights. You can walk around and marvel at the different light displays, go skating, and the kids can ride on a little train.
  • Where: Nose Creek Park, Airdrie
  • When: Now until Thursday, December 31 from 6 to 9 p.m.
  • Cost: Admission by donation

StoryBook Theatre’s A Christmas Story: The musical

  • What: Hilarious is only one of the words used to describe A Christmas Story – the musical, which is based on the holiday movie favourite. It’s about a boy in the 1940s who has a huge imagination and one wish for Christmas.
  • Where: StoryBook Theatre – 375 Bermuda Drive NW
  • When: December 4 to 23; Tuesdays to Saturdays at 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m.
  • Cost: $21 for adults, $16 for children

Festival of Trees

  • What: View beautifully decorated trees in Canmore’s Civic Centre.
  • Where: Canmore Civic Centre – 7 Avenue, Canmore
  • When: Now until December 24
  • Cost: Admission by donation; Suggested donation is $2

Legend Has It

  • What: Alberta Theatre Projects presents Legend Has It, a funny and heartwarming show where they choose someone from the audience to go on a quest to save the world.
  • Where: Martha Cohen Theatre, Arts Commons – 205 8 Avenue SE
  • When: Now until December 31; Tuesday to Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m.

Christmas Lights at Spruce Meadows

  • What: Every evening, a quarter of a million lights blanketing Spruce Meadows will glow. If you like skating there is a rink to skate on and if you get hungry they also serve hot chocolate, coffee and snacks.

80 Solid Gold 2: A Musical Revue

  • What: Stage West is back to perform all of the top influential new wave pop and rock songs in this second part of their show.

Jubilations Dinner Theatre: Modern Family Vacation

  • What: Enjoy a dinner theatre play about a couple that decide to go on a Titanic II cruise for their anniversary only for their family to decide to come along too. Nothing could go wrong right?
