13 things to do at the Calgary Stampede

With the 103rd anniversary of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth quickly approaching,
here is a list of the top 13 events going on at this year’s Calgary Stampede.

Stampede Breakfast

Stampede wouldn’t be complete without attending a Stampede Breakfast! Most
communities hold delicious pancake breakfasts at their community centres, so check
your community news for dates and times. For those of you coming into town to enjoy
Stampede, it can’t hurt to check out the 55th Annual Chinook Centre Pancake breakfast
on Saturday, July 4.

Where: 6455 Macleod Trail SW (intersection of Macleod Trail and Glenmore Trail), Calgary
When: Saturday, July 4; 7 to 11 a.m.

Kick-off Parade

On July 3, two-time Olympic gold medalist for bobsleigh, Calgary born and raised,Kaillie Humphries will be the 2015 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal. The parade also showcases the World Champion Calgary Stampede Showband, followed by floats, the finest marching bands, riders, celebrities, and fascinating cultural entries. The parade kicks off at 7:30 a.m. sharp with the Parade Prelude, but head down early to get a great spot.

Sneak A Peek

Although Stampede officially kicks off on July 3, tickets are available for “Sneak a Peek” night on July 2. This night is the perfect opportunity for those who can’t wait to check out the amazing entertainment, rides and food offered at this year’s Stampede.

When: Thursday, July 2, 5 p.m. to midnight
Cost: $8 admission

Agriculture Building/Agrium Western Event Centre

Almost all day, everyday there will be fantastic showcases of adorable animals and fun interactive activities that will keep every child and adult entertained. Make sure to check out the Agrium Barn Tours, the Country Critters, the Blacksmith showcase, and so much more.

Bell Adrenaline Ranch

The Evolution Of Extreme showcases the talents of freestyle motocross rider Keith Sayers as he leads an adrenaline-fueled team into an extreme battle against gravity. Definitely take a bit of time out of your day to catch these record-setting, gold medal riders hit new heights on BMX and motocross bikes, and even a back-flipping snowmobile.


The Stampede Midway is no joke, there will be plenty of rides that will get your heart racing like the Polar Express and Mach 3, and some that just give you nice view of the grounds like the Giant Wheel. There will be tons of games that test your hand-eye coordination and even better prizes for the winners. We can’t forget about all the awesome snacks offered in the midway, like Mini-Donut Popsicles, Red Velvet Chicken Strips, Crazy Cones, and even Cockroach Pizza.

Cowboys Stampede Tent

The party that is the First Friday of Stampede kicks off at 11am at the Cowboys Tent, located at 421 12th Ave SE. The sweet country tunes and high-energy atmosphere set in the tent keeps seemingly never ends. Over the course of the 10 days, artists such as Toby Keith, Blue Rodeo, Ludacris, Wiz Khalifa, The Sheepdogs, and more hit the stage in the tent and dancehall. Nashville North

The notorious Nashville North is a party venue specifically created for Stampede so definitely make sure to check it out while it’s around. The lineup featured at Nashville North is jam packed with some of the best country acts, including Corb Lund, Washboard Union, Chad Brownlee, and so many more. You can rock out with these amazing acts all day and night over the course of Stampede. Coca-Cola stage

One of the coolest parts of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth are the free concerts for all ages put on at the Coke Stage. The likes of Lights, Kiesza, Vance Joy, Scott Helman and so many more, will all be taking the stage to kick off the nightly celebrations for all 10 days of Stampede.

Scotiabank Saddledome

Some of country music’s hottest acts will be hitting the stage at the Scotiabank Saddledome in celebration of the country craze that takes over Cowtown for the 10 days of Stampede. For those of you who were lucky enough to get tickets to these shows, you’ll be checking out artists like Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton, and Jason Aldean who will all be setting the stage alight on their respective nights. So, get your best denim, plaid, and comfiest cowboy boots out to dance up a storm because these artists are sure to get you up and out of your seat for the night.

Grandstand Show

The Grandstand is hands down a must see event during Stampede for any age group! This captivating show features the talented Young Canadians and their mesmerizing choreography and singing. In addition to the immense talent showcased by these young individuals, the brilliant firework finale will surely leave you in awe. The show will also feature the Alberta Ballet, which will be preforming new numbers for the audience. Be sure to get your tickets early so you don’t miss out on this memorable event that happens each night.

GMC Rangeland Derby

The world’s premier chuckwagon event features 36 drivers, supported by their outriders and 216 horses, as they all compete for over $1.15 million in total prize money. Don’t miss out on any of the heart-pounding action over nine nightly heats starting at 7:45 pm. This adrenaline packed event is then followed by the world famous Grandstand Show.


Here we have the biggest event of Stampede, the Rodeo! There will not be a single dull moment during each and every event showcased at the Grandstand. The Rodeo will feature bull riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, bareback, saddle bronc, and ladies barrel racing. Get your tickets early because the Rodeo seriously captures the true spirit of the Great Outdoor Show on Earth.
