Team Finland announces World Cup of Hockey roster

Team Finland has announced their first 16 players that will compete at the World Cup of Hockey this September in Toronto.

Finland, as always, will be strong in goal. The rest of their team is NHL-laden, but not as star-studded as some of the other teams in the tournament.

Still, don’t count Finland out. They always perform well at best-on-best tournaments. They have won a medal in 4 of the 5 Olympic Games with NHL participation.

Finland were semifinalists in Sochi and were runners-up to Canada at the last World Cup of Hockey in 2004. They have never won a best-on-best tournament.

For the first time in forever, they will be without the now-retired Teemu Selanne.
