Soon there might be more than just rotisserie chicken to love at Swiss Chalet restaurants.

The Canadian chain restaurant first established in 1954 has become a staple for comfort foods in Canada with its menu of quarter chicken dinners, ribs, fries, and signature Chalet sauce.

Starting December 20, the chain will unveil the next generation of restaurants. Swiss Chalet’s busiest location on Bayfield Street in Barrie, ON will be the first to reveal an all-new look and new menu items that could one day be rolled out across the country.

“The renovation to this 35-year-old location and fresh new menu items are a glimpse into Swiss Chalet’s future, reflecting our goal of modernizing one of Canada’s most iconic restaurant brands,’ says Ken Otto, President, Swiss Chalet in a press release. “Whether you’re dining in or picking up dinner, our goal with the new concept is to create a welcoming, cool and casual environment with delicious options for everyone at the table. We know existing guests will love the new look and new diners will be pleasantly surprised.”

The future of Swiss Chalet will include an updated look in the dining room, “Watering Hole” bar area, fast-casual express section, and pick-up area for takeout. Meanwhile, the menu will see the addition of new selections designed by Chef Tallis Voakes (Chopped Canada) including “lighter, healthy fare, like the veggie-based, protein-packed Power Salad and Sriracha honey brussels sprouts.”

On the more indulgent side, a Taco Poutine loaded with rotisserie chicken and dressed in ancho sauce will join the menu favourites along with deep fried mac and cheese balls spiked with jalapeno and bacon, and a new Northern Canuck Rotisserie Chicken and Beef sandwich.
