Study: Canadian couples move in with each other incredibly fast
A new study from global home outfitters, Wayfair.com, has shed some light on how quickly Canadian couples tend to move in together.
And you might be surprised to find out just how fast these couples go from first date to first apartment.
The study, which compared US and Canadian Millennials, Gen Xers, and Baby Boomers, surveyed more than 1000 Americans and nearly 900 Canadians to see just how quickly they decided to take the first step towards common-law living.
Wayfair broke the options down into the following categories:
- Less than 6 months
- 6 months to a year
- 1-2 years
- 2-3 years
- 3-5 years
- More than 5 years
And the results can definitely be considered surprising for a few reasons.
Nearly 25% of North American Millennials move in together within the first 6 months. And while that seems pretty fast, Gen Xers were not to be outdone, eclipsing 26% in the same category.
Overall, the chances that a Canadian Millennial will living with someone within a year of dating them is 50/50.
Basically, swiping right is now a lot like playing Black Jack – eventually, the house always wins.
What’s more, Wayfair broke down the geographical likelihood of moving in together happening before the one year mark of the relationship. It turns out that in both the US and Canada there’s a higher chance that you’ll be doing so if you live in the western half of the country:
The survey also broke down how much each couple was likely to spend on household items in their first years living together, and Canadians seem ready to far outspend our neighbours to the south both earlier in our relationships and later on:
