Massive twin-tower project just announced for downtown Calgary

Look up, because our city’s skyline is getting a couple of striking new additions. Plans have just been announced for a stunning twin-tower project in downtown Calgary.
Truman and Marriott International, Inc. revealed plans today to open three hotels in Calgary’s growing Culture + Entertainment District, including W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary and an Autograph Collection Hotel on Stampede Park.
The Stampede Station development will consist of a twin-tower project, a JW Marriott and a W Marriott. These are shaping up to be two of Western Canada’s tallest residential towers and will be located at 15th Ave. and Macleod Tr. SE.
Calgary-based Truman and Louson will lead the joint venture with an expected completion of 2029 and 2030.

Not only will these towers bring new heights to the downtown skyline, but this mixed-use development will provide a mix of hospitality and residential units.
“Truman and Louson, as Calgary-based and family-owned companies, have a deep commitment to this city, and we believe this project will be a significant catalyst for the local economy. Beyond creating numerous construction jobs, these hotels are expected to generate substantial long-term employment opportunities, boost tourism, and support local businesses through increased visitor spending. We are immensely proud to invest further in Calgary’s future and contribute to its vibrant growth,” said Tony Trutina, chief operating officer of Truman.
The W Hotel tower will be 69 stories high and feature 157 guest rooms, including 27 suites, and 239 branded residences. Guests will also have access to some pretty sweet amenities, including a 7,500 sq. ft. AWAY Spa, specialty restaurant, 16,259 sq. ft. of meeting space, the brand’s signature Living Room, an expansive FIT studio, and a rooftop bar. Residents of the building will also have access to these facilities, along with a dedicated private entrance.
The JW Marriott tower will sit at a lofty 62 stories and offer 248 guestrooms and 120 branded residences. Guests and residents will have luxe amenities like 32,500 sq. ft. of meeting space, an indoor and outdoor pool, the brand’s signature JW Market, a tranquil JW Garden, and a curated retail area with more features to be announced.
This new project comes on the heels of Truman’s recently announced partnership with Calgary Stampede to build a 320-key hotel on Stampede Park, which will officially operate under Autograph Collection Hotels.
All these new developments mark clear progress on the Rivers District Master Plan, spearheaded by the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), with the aim of transforming the landscape of this downtown neighbourhood.
“Our shared vision for The Culture + Entertainment District as a vibrant, mixed-use neighbourhood is coming to life, with more than $2B in city-building infrastructure and cultural destinations completed or underway,” said Kate Thompson, president and CEO of CMLC. “As we knew it would, our city’s public investment in the C+E is now attracting significant private interest and investment, bringing forward the hotels, residences and commercial spaces envisioned in the master plan that will, critically, support the needs of meetings, conventions and major events taking place in The District.”
The Calgary twin-tower project, along with the previously announced Autograph Collection Hotel, will bring over 700 premium and luxury hotel rooms and nearly 360 branded residences to Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District.
Not only does this fill a growing need for hotel accommodations near key venues like the BMO Centre and the upcoming Scotia Place event centre, but these projects are expected to support over 9,100 jobs during construction and more than 2,000 ongoing positions across operations and tourism sectors.
