It’s not often that you hear about hair fashion shows in Vancouver, but there’s one annual event that should be on every style enthusiast’s calendar.

A true celebration of both hair and fashion, Show It Off took place at Vancouver Playhouse earlier this month. The event goes beyond what you’d typically expect from a hair show, with stylists creating awe-inspiring looks based on a theme of celebrating hair fashion.

Presented by the Beauty Council, Show It Off saw local, national, and international salon talent liberate the diversity of their artistry by showcasing their creations during vibrant and cheeky theatrical performances.

To make it better, each effort had a huge impact as proceeds from Show It Off will be supporting BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

It’s a show where the energy of hosts, executive director of the Beauty Council, Fiona Chambers, BC Barbers Association, and Jon Paul Holt, owner of Avant Garde Hair Studio, truly adds to the overall experience.

Each participating salon and stylist involved in the show volunteered their time to make it one to remember with their game-changing presentations.

“When we approached the teams and asked if they wanted to participate, there was no hesitation, everyone wanted to support and be a part of this amazing show,” says Fiona Chambers.

“During and after the show, I received calls, emails, and texts, from salons and artistic teams wanting to participate next year — it definitely confirms to us that our industry loves this type of format for a show.”

Chambers explains how Show It Off has changed the landscape in Western Canada as there aren’t many events that spark creativity, aside from distributor and private manufacturer educational shows.

In supporting the industry, Show It Off presents CHIC Awards (Cosmetology Honoured In Community) to artists from BC. As well as this, a CHIC Charity Award.

This year, Street Thug Barbers took home an award for their incredible work — donating hours of their time cutting hair for the less fortunate in Vancouver. Not forgetting the Canadian Icon Award which was presented to Michelle Pargee, an inspiration and mentor to many artists in BC.
