Shoppers Drug Mart signs agreement to start selling weed

Weed could soon be accessible through Shoppers Drug Mart.

According to Aphira Inc, they have entered an agreement with Shoppers to become a medical marijuana supplier for the pharmacy chain.

Aphria Inc., located in Leamington, Ontario, is one of Canada’s lowest cost manufacturers, that produces, supplies, and sells medical cannabis.

The deal is subject to Health Canada’s approval of Shoppers Drug Mart’s application to be a licensed producer.

If it goes through, Aphria-branded medical cannabis products will be available through Shoppers Drug Mart, although it is expected the products will be sold online, since Canadian regulations currently restrict the sale of medical cannabis in retail pharmacies.

“We have an impeccable record cultivating and producing high-quality, medical-grade cannabis,” said Vic Neufeld, CEO of Aphria, in a statement. “These traits make us a strong partner for an organization looking to serve and support Canadian patients.”
