A tornado warning has been issued by Environment Canada for communities in Calgary.
Much of north Calgary remains under severe thunderstorm warning after a thunderstorm was spotted on 40 km north of Crossfield.
Environment Canada said that in addition to a tornado, a severe thunderstorm is capable of producing golf ball sized hail, calling it a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.
Communities are warned to take shelter immediately and to stay away from outside walls and windows. People are advised to not stay in vehicles, tents, and mobile homes and move to a strong-standing building instead.
Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required.
