New specialty coffee cafe and creative space opens in Calgary
Heads up, Calgary! The city has a brand-new coffee shop to check out.
Semantics Cafe has just opened at the base of the Upten building at 1010 1st St. SE and aims to be a go-to spot for Calgary’s creative community and lovers of specialty coffee.
Aiming to break away from the perceived “pretentiousness” of the specialty coffee scene, Semantics said it aims to “break down the barriers of entry” without sacrificing quality.
“We want to ensure that anyone interested in coffee gains the knowledge and experience they seek in a judgment-free environment,” the website adds.

Further than its coffee offerings, Semantics Cafe aims to serve as a hub for the city’s bustling creative scene.
“While coffee may be our bread and butter, a passion for the arts and the people who create is what drives Semantic Cafe forward,” the website reads.
As well as its coffee, Semantics Cafe offers a carefully curated selection of books and vinyl records. The space will also play host to live music, workshops, and other events in order to further support the community.
