Win prizes for cooking your most Canadian recipes this Canada Day

Jun 23 2020, 3:57 pm

Canada Day is right around the corner, and just because that might mean a BBQ with friends standing two metres apart from each other this year, doesn’t mean you can’t still cook up your favourite Canadian dishes for the ‘gram.

After all, what better way to celebrate the incredible country we get to call home rather than through the shared love of food? But if you need an extra reason to get excited about putting on a Canadian feast this Canada Day, we have the perfect excuse.

Save-On-Foods has announced that it wants Canadians to share their most Instagrammable Canada Day fare as part of its new #NourishingConnections campaign.

The initiative aims to connect Canadians over a mutual love of food and quality time spent together. It’s already underway, having already hosted weekly challenges centred around working from home, family, relationships, and Father’s Day.

Getting involved is simple. Just share a photo of your epic Canadian-inspired dish, upload with the hashtag #NourishingConnections, and follow and tag @saveonfoods. Oh, Canada!

Each theme is announced by a Save-On-Food’s ambassador and then shared on the company’s Facebook and Instagram pages. For example, earlier this month, home cooks posted photos celebrating grads’ dishes.

Share your photo by Wednesday, July 1 and you could be surprised with one of Save-On-Foods’ random $250 gift card giveaways. The company will also be giving out a random $1,000 prize!

If you’re stuck for inspiration for some patriotic dishes, we’ve got some for you. For dessert, you can’t go wrong using a recipe with maple syrup — like a maple butter pecan tart or maple syrup waffles or pancakes.

Whipping together some Nanaimo bars are sure to get you both likes IRL at your BBQ and on social media, too.

We know the whole day can’t just be about dessert, though. For something savoury, try baking some traditional bannock or hearty poutine. And for drinks, you really can’t go wrong with a tray of homemade Caesars. We’ll cheers to that.

Canada Day is all about spending quality time with friends and family and celebrating the incredible country we live in.

Even though we may be experiencing it apart this year, that doesn’t mean July 1 can’t still be a fun and meaningful day to remember. After all, if this year has taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t take anything for granted, and that includes time spent with our loved ones.

A lot of us have been spending extra time in the kitchen at home lately, so take this opportunity to show off your culinary chops and post it on social media.

Share it online using the hashtag #NourishingConnections and tagging @saveonfoods to connect with all your fellow Canadians celebrating their country.
