PRLR Lounge brings creative cocktails to Kensington

Dec 19 2017, 10:49 am

PRLR Lounge a new drinking destination in the city’s Northwest is providing locals with a sophisticated yet casual space to enjoy a lingering drink or two. Located at the intersection of Kensington and 10th Street, PRLR (parlour without the vowels) offers carefully-crafted cocktails, in addition to a variety of small bites, in a speakeasy-esque setting.

Owned and run by Stuart Connor, who also owns the Oak Tree Tavern (located above PRLR) and Night Owl, PRLR has a capacity of 60, and prides itself on creating a warm and welcoming ambience.

The room is split into two areas; the front half where the bar is located, and a back half where leather booths and individual tables reside. The mood is comfortable, thanks to low lighting and candles, and a mix of hip hop, soul, funk and R&B music, which plays softly in the background.

Under the guidance of bar manager Alex Newman, PRLR’s cocktail menu boasts a range of classic and inventive tipples, and includes a variety of big and boozy, slow sippers, and refreshing drinks. For a memorable drink patrons should try the bar’s signature beverage Gunsmoke, a pisco based cocktail, mixed with lemon juice, maple syrup and Red Alder smoked sea salt. The glass also has a scotch rinse.

To eat, there’s a constantly evolving menu full of bar-friendly fare. Michael Riach who oversees the food program prepares classic dishes such as escargot, and bison tartare with pickled beets, as well as sharing plates with new twists, like the Ploughmans Lunch, which is comprised of cheeses, house pickles, wild game salami, pickled quail eggs, and house-cured pork belly.
