Investigators looking into short circuit as possible cause of Notre-Dame fire

Since the Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames on April 16, a shaken Paris has been focused on rebuilding the iconic building.

The rebuild fund had raised $1 billion CAD (700 million euros) in its first 24 hours, leading some to question if this was the best use of such large sums of money.

But the pressing question on everyone’s mind has been what caused the fire?

According to CNN, Paris prosecutors are investigating if a short-circuit was the cause of the inferno.

“While the prosecutor’s office does not rule out any hypothesis, we remind that at this stage, nothing in the investigations highlights a criminal origin. Accidental causes remain our privileged lead,” the prosecutor’s office told CNN.

The Notre-Dame was under renovations at the time of the fire, including work around the iconic spire, which collapsed in the fire. Fortunately, the most valuable artifacts were saved in the fire, and you can see a breakdown of the aftermath here.
