A popular central Alberta campground is undergoing a BIG makeover

Campers heading south of Edmonton to relax on the shores of Pigeon Lake Provincial Park may encounter some construction noise this summer as the province works on a brand-new camping loop.

Alberta Parks notes on its website that from March 1 until further notice, a construction advisory is in effect for Pigeon Lake Campground, as heavy equipment and a construction crew will be on-site working on the expansion project.

For those planning on heading to the park once temperatures warm up, there shouldn’t be much disruption from the construction, and visitors will still have access to the current camping loops, group use areas, and day use areas.

But if you’re looking for an escape from the city and the construction noises that fill the air in Alberta once all of the ice and snow thaws, be prepared, because you’ll be hearing that on-site during the daytime hours.

Alberta Parks will post updates on its site as construction progresses and project schedule details are finalized.

“Follow the direction of all signage and personnel in the area and stay out of active construction zones,” Alberta Parks said.

Pigeon Lake Campground currently offers 247 campsites, ranging from unserviced to sites with full hookups. The campsite runs year-round with reduced rates in the winter.

While the lush boreal forest, endless trails, and picturesque shores of Pigeon Lake are a massive draw for campers in the summer, we totally get if you’re not sold on the sound of construction noises during your getaway.
