It’s no secret that the restaurant industry has been one of the hardest hit by the effects of the ongoing pandemic, but when you see the number of establishments that have closed across Canada because of it, the already-grim picture seems to become even grimmer.

10,000 restaurants have shut their doors across the country since the beginning of the pandemic in March, according to Restaurants Canada.

To bring attention to the industry’s dire need for support, the not-for-profit association representing Canada’s foodservice sector has launched a new campaign titled “Picture Your Life Without Restaurants.”

In the one-minute YouTube video, the campaign asks the viewer to remember all the occasions – big and small – when our local eateries were there for us.

The campaign calls on consumers to support their local restaurants by dining-in (where available), ordering for takeout and delivery, or, by purchasing gift cards to use at a later time.

“Picture Life Without Restaurants” coincides with the newly launched website SupportRestaurants.ca, where consumers can pledge their support.
