Orange Is the New Black author Piper Kerman comes to Calgary

Dec 19 2017, 11:19 am

Best selling author of Orange Is the New Black and inspiration for the Netflix show of the same name, Piper Kerman, is coming to Calgary to talk about her time behind bars. Kerman was convicted of felony money-laundering charges and spent 13 months in prison at a minimum-security prison located in Danbury, Connecticut.

The Elizabeth Fry Society (EFry) of Calgary is hosting the fundraising event. EFry encourages positive change and awareness for women and their families affected by systemic social issues that can contribute to their criminalization. The night is about finding another chance and emphasizes the need for reform and restoration.

Before Kerman’s presentation there will be a silent auction.
