The Heritage Day long weekend is almost upon us, and some spots around Calgary will be making some minor accommodations to their services to reflect this.
Most City services will remain open; however, there are adjustments to operating hours in place. A reminder that Heritage Day is not a statutory holiday in Alberta, and if an employer recognizes an additional holiday, all employment standards rules related to holiday pay apply to these additional holidays.
Here’s what’s open — and what’s not — for Heritage Day long weekend 2025.

The holiday weekend will bring some changes to City of Calgary services. If you’re driving to any events this weekend, you’ll be happy to hear no payment is required for on-street parking on Heritage Day.
Calgary Parking parkades and surface lots will offer weekend rates. Trains will also operate as usual. The Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed on Monday.
Landfills will be open most days except for the Spyhill and Shepard locations on Sunday. You can find more detailed hours here.
