Believe it or not, June is nearly over, and Canada Day is almost here. But before you start hatching any grand plans, make sure you check what’s open and closed in Calgary this Canada Day.
While it’s a bit of a bummer that the holiday falls on a Tuesday this year, a day off is a day off. Besides, there are a ton of fun events happening around the city, from the Indigenous Spotlight and Powwow to the countless activities at St. Patrick’s Island. Of course, it wouldn’t be Canada Day without the fireworks that launch from Stampede Park at approximately 11 p.m.
Whether you plan to catch the fireworks or just enjoy some family time, here’s what will be open and closed for Canada Day around the city.
City of Calgary Services

City of Calgary landfills will be open on July 1.
If you’re attending any festivities downtown, on-street ParkPlus zones and Calgary Parking parkades will be free. Weekend rates apply at Arts Commons parkade and surface lots, with regular rates in effect at partner lots, like TELUS Spark, University District, Calgary Zoo, and Heritage Park.
If you can, try taking public transit, biking, or carpooling to avoid the parking headache downtown.
Road Closures

6th Street SE from 9th Avenue SE to 8th Avenue SE
5th Street SE from 9th Avenue SE to 7th Avenue SE
