The Calgary Police Service is currently investigating the death of a 23-year-old Ontario man who was fatally shot on December 26.

The identity of the victim has been confirmed following an autopsy as Farah Handule, who police believe had been in Calgary since Tuesday, December 24.

Handule was shot and killed shortly before 9 pm on Thursday, according to a Calgary Police Service release, with officers responding to a call of shots being fired in the area of 16th Avenue and Home Road NW.

Upon their arrival, first responders found Handule deceased, following what police believe was a targeted attack.

“This is a targeted homicide carried out in a brazen way that leaves us very concerned for public safety. This easily could have resulted in a tragic outcome for innocent citizens who were in the area,” said Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.

“We are hoping that information from the public will lead us to determining who is responsible for this.”

Police are now asking anyone with information relating to the shooting to come forward and contact them at the Calgary Police Service’s non-emergency number of 403-266-1234.

Tips can also be left anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or by visiting their website.
