Edmonton Oilers hosting rookie game vs. Calgary Flames and tickets are just $20

Edmonton Oilers fans itching to get back into Rogers Place to watch hockey will get that opportunity next week, and they won’t have to break the bank.

Preseason games are set to begin on Sept. 21 for the Oilers, but before that, they will host a rookie game against the Calgary Flames on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. MDT. Even better, tickets will be dirt cheap with advance seats going for just $20 apiece, while day-of tickets will increase to $25.

Tickets are set to go on sale on Thursday at 10 a.m. MDT on Ticketmaster.

The game will feature top prospects Matt Savoie and Isaac Howard, the latter of whom will be suiting up in an Oilers uniform for the first time at this game. Alongside those two, Edmonton released a list of players who will also participate, which includes:

  • Beau Akey
  • Brady Stonehouse
  • Connor Clattenburg
  • Damien Carfagna
  • David Lewandowski
  • James Stefan
  • Josh Samanski
  • Nathaniel Day
  • Quinn Hutson
  • Samuel Jonsson
  • Tommy Lafreniere
  • Viljami Marjala

Savoie played in his first full pro season last year, appearing in four NHL games with the Oilers. Howard, on the other hand, is entering his first professional season and is carrying quite a bit of hype behind him as the reigning Hobey Baker winner.

This is a new kind of rookie showcase for the Oilers, as this two-game set will replace the usual youngstars tournament that is typically held around the same time in Penticton. That tournament has been shelved this season after teams opted not to participate.

Oilers players have already arrived in Edmonton to gear up for the new season. Savoie is among that group, as he was seen skating alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl at the downtown community rink in Rogers Place earlier this week.

This will be the first of two rookie games between the Oilers and Flames. The second will be hosted in Calgary on Sept. 14.
