An RCMP officer is facing one sexual assault charge stemming from an alleged incident said to have taken place in 2017.

According to a release from the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), Constable Kelly Brown was charged with one count of sexual assault on September 27, following a two-year investigation on the part of ASIRT.

The release alleges that Brown had sexually assaulted an adult woman on the morning of July 6, 2017, while off-duty, with the case and evidence being forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) following the initial investigation.

After receiving the opinion of ACPS and reviewing the investigation, ASIRT’s executive director Susan Hughson decided that Brown should be charged, according to the release.

Brown is scheduled to appear in Leduc Provincial Court on October 17, 2019.
