Southeast Calgary just got a brand new Sobeys, and the grocery store, located in the community of Legacy, is the first of its kind.
Sobeys Legacy brings the introduction of a new prototype for the chain. “It has an open feel with clean sight lines and great pops of colour,” Sobeys Legacy Store Manager, Chris Gartner, told Daily Hive in an email. “We can’t wait for the community to experience it.”
The 200 Hartell Way SE grocery store opened on Thursday, April 29. Gartner says that they are thrilled to introduce a new shopping experience designed to exceed the expectations of the vibrant and growing Legacy and Walden neighbourhoods, adding, “Our store brings a sense of family to the community.”

Customers at the new Calgary Sobeys can expect fresh artisan baked goods, a full-service meat and seafood department, 58-day sterling silver dry-aged beef, an in-store pharmacy, and exciting floral, deli, and kitchen offerings.
Sobeys Legacy also has “a wide variety of local offerings that are constantly changing throughout the year as we partner with more vendors,” says Gartner.
Some local brands offered at the new location include Twigz Pretzels, Big Chief Beef Jerky, and A Fine Balance Foods Samosa Chips. Ambient pizza and Bento sushi with a poke bar round out Sobeys Legacy’s fresh food options.
Sobeys Legacy employs approximately 120 Calgarians. “Through our store opening, our team has really come together and become a family,” Gartner says. “And our family is proud to serve the surrounding communities and their families.”
