Six deaths, 70 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Alberta

In a Wednesday press conference, Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the province has seen 70 new known cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

This brings the province’s known total to 5,963.

She noted that there have also been six new deaths in the province that were coronavirus-related, bringing Alberta’s total coronavirus-related deaths to 112.

Hinshaw also stated that there are currently 632 active cases at continuing care centres throughout the province.

Hinshaw noted that there have been 946 confirmed cases at the Cargill meatpacking plant in High River, though 798 of those cases have since recovered.

The JBS plant in Brooks has seen 566 cases with 434 recovered, while the Harmony meatpacking plant has seen 38 cases during its outbreak.

A total of 3,552 people have recovered from coronavirus in Alberta so far — 323 more than 24 hours ago.
