A new pedestrian bridge next to the Calgary Cancer Centre is expected to be completed sometime this month.

The City of Calgary’s website says construction on the $15 million Stadium pedestrian bridge, also known as the 16th Avenue NW/29th Street Pedestrian Overpass, will be completed this month.

“In July and August the main truss was welded together and installed across 16 Avenue NW. Over the next few months, crews will finish the remaining work, this includes railing installation, stair construction and landscaping,” the city said in its last update.

The city added that construction is dependent on weather, site conditions and timing of other projects in the area.

The bridge supports pedestrian access, creates connections in the community, and provides a link to the Crosstown Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network.

The area improvements related to the pedestrian bridge support the current activity and future growth in population and employment in the NW Hub area, including the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC), Calgary Cancer Centre and the UXBorough Development.

An official opening date for the pedestrian bridge was not provided.
