Nine deaths, 70 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Alberta

In a Monday press conference, Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said the province has seen 70 new known cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

This brings the province’s known total to 5,836.

She noted that there have also been nine new deaths in the province that were coronavirus-related, four of which happened in the past 24 hours while the others were only confirmed to be related to the virus recently.

This brings Alberta’s total coronavirus-related deaths to 104.

Hinshaw also stated that there are currently 621 active cases at continuing care centres throughout the province.

Hinshaw noted that there have been 936 confirmed cases at the Cargill meatpacking plant in High River, though 810 of those cases have since recovered.

The JBS plant in Brooks has seen 469 cases, and Brooks has a whole has seen a total of 998 cases.

A total of 2,942 people have recovered from coronavirus in Alberta so far.
