It’s no secret that millennials and baby boomers tend to butt heads, but now there’s a survey to prove it.
The Angus Reid Institute polled more than 1,500 Canadians and found three quarters of millennials think they have it worse than previous generations. On the flip side, only half of boomers feel the same, with the other half saying millennials are “too soft.”
Ouch.
Across all age groups, 53% of Canadians believe millennials have it rough.
When broken up by province, Quebec leads the pack of millennial sympathizers, with 57% of Quebecers agreeing that today’s youngsters have it tough. Meanwhile, 70% of people in Manitoba think they’re soft.
Unsurprisingly, people who live in Canada’s largest cities – Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal – believe millennials are struggling more so than other generations, while rural dwellers believe the opposite.
Whether or not you believe millennials have it rough, one thing is for sure: more people in their 20s are living at home than ever before. The number of young people living with their parents has grown 11% over a 30 year period. The Angus Reid Institute took data from Statistics Canada and made a handy chart:
And apparently you’re ‘adulting’ wrong if you’re still living at home. Over half of Canadians believe you’re not a real grownup until you’ve achieved financial independence.
