MEC is hosting after-hours social in support of climate action next weekend

Nov 7 2019, 10:30 pm

MEC is hosting a season-opener after-hours social next weekend on Saturday, November 16.

While this event will cost you $10 to attend, you’ll get to enjoy a few feature films — Spearhead: Pushing the Boundaries of BC’s Backcountry and Electric Greg – A carbon neutral quest to become a better adventurer — and all attendees will be able to have their skis or snowboards waxed for free.

The event page states that most attendees will be able to take their boards or skis (downhill or nordic) home that night, but those who don’t will get theirs back within three days.

The event will also feature tunes by DJ Anput and a presentation by Calgary’s own Izzy Lynch about the Protect Our Winters community.

All proceeds will be going to POW, which aims to unite athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and industry brands in the goal of addressing climate change.

Arcteryx will be giving away free enamel mugs to the first 200 people through the door, and one person will even win a free ski suit from the outdoor apparel company.

Doors open — and refreshments will be served  courtesy of Grizzly Pay Brewing — at 7 pm, and the event will commence as follows from then until 9:30 pm:

  • Mix + mingle
  • FREE Ski/board waxing (see more info below)
  • Welcome from MEC
  • Spearhead: Pushing the Boundaries of BC’s Backcountry screening
  • Intermission
