The Calgary Police Service is seeking the person responsible for a fatal hit and run that took place early Wednesday morning.

According to a CPS release, a 2010 Dodge Journey had been travelling at a high rate of speed heading south on 52nd Street NE.

Police believe that it was struck from behind by a 2008 Buick Allure as it neared the interchange of 16th Avenue NE, causing the Dodge to cross the centre median and eject one man from the vehicle, who would be pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other passengers of the Dodge Journey were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to the release, the Buick remained on scene for a short time before driving off, though the vehicle would be located, unoccupied, later that day in the Saddletowne area.

Police believe excessive speed to be a factor in the collision, though say they are still determining if drugs or alcohol played a role, or if this was a road racing incident.

Police are asking anyone with information about the hit and run to contact them at their non-emergency line of 403-266-1234.

Tips can also be made anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or through their website.
